Today's review is on Sex and the City, another all time favorite of mine:) This time, for different reasons though. Even if most people would say that this show is about single women finding love in 90's Manhattan, i disagree. It's about 4 gorgeous women and the amazing friendship between them. Of course, the secondary stories revolve around their love lives but the most important thing is their friendship. Even though they are so different, they are each other's soulmates...
The main character of the show is Carrie Bradshaw, a columnist for a NY newspaper. She writes about sex, love and adventures and takes her inspiration from her personal life and her friends' experiences. Carrie dated a lot during the show but her most significant loves were Mr.Big, a character without a real name until the end of the show, who has harmed her so much in the beginning and despite that, they still end up together; and Aidan, who loved her so much and she hurt him even though in my opinion he is the one she should have ended up with..
She is fun and has an amazing fashion style and growing up i always wanted to be just like her...But also growing up and watching the show for the second, third, maybe even fourth time...i also realized that maybe i have a lot more in common with the other characters and maybe i wanted to be a little bit just like each one of them....
Samantha is the female equivalent of ..a man! She acts with such boldness and courage regarding sex and couldn't care less about what other people think of her. She represents, at least for me, a role model as to we shouldn't care what society thinks or says a woman can or cannot do. She refuses to submit to the conventional idea of a relationship but is still open to the idea of falling in love. And she does it, twice throughout the show....
The first time i met Charlotte, i thought she was a prude. And to be honest, it may appear so at the beginning. But as the show continues, i found in Charlotte optimism. She believes in true love and the fairy prince on a white horse that we've all been waiting for. She is a true romantic and even after her first marriage fails, she still puts herself out there and finds love again.. Charlotte made me believe and her optimism made me feel more positive...
Finally, Miranda...she is a convinced feminist and refuses the idea that women need a man in their lives...At times she is awkward, pessimist and disagrees with every romantic gesture..There is nothing fake in this character and she reacts to situations as a lot of people would if they wouldn't be afraid of what society thinks. Miranda is the strong and independent one, as we all wish to be...
This show not only represents the greatest friendship between women, a friendship that i always wanted to have with my friends, but it has these 4 totally different characters that you will love instantly! I wish to be a dreamer like Carrie, bold like Samantha, romantic and optimistic like Charlotte and strong like Miranda!
I leave you with some of my favorite moments of the show and again, if you've seen it before, i hope i put a smile on your face, if not- better start on it!
A.
And finally, what we are all looking for....
